CARSON, Calif. - With their backs against the wall, the Point Loma team stormed back from a two-set deficit to defeat Westminster in the SoCal Freeway Challenge for its first road win of the year.

Courtney Dyer fueled the Sea Lions, and especially their defense, with a new school record 43 digs. That mark topped the previous record of 41 which was set last Friday against Regis. Those are the most digs by any student-athlete in the PacWest since Sept. 2015 and they are the most digs in a five-set match since Nov. 2012.

She helped turn around the Sea Lions' defense from the first two sets when the Griffins outhit them by at least .140 percent. PLNU grinded out a 25-23 win in the third set and never trailed after it was 2-1 in the fourth set to send the match to the decisive fifth set, which would be Point Loma's best set of the day. Â Â

The Sea Lions hit .381 in the set with nine kills and just one error. They jumped in front 3-0 and outscored Westminster 9-4 to close the set.

Torina Hommes registered a career-high 19 kills to go along with an impressive .333 hitting percentage.
Alexis Soncrant also posted a career-high in kills with 14. The sophomore had just two errors in 38 swings for a .314 hitting percentage.
Anna Massari chipped in with 13 kills and a team-leading .400 hitting percentage.
Lauren Phillips added 45 assists (career-best) and
Madie Fox had four blocks. Lydia Miller led Westminster with 20 kills and a .432 hitting percentage.
