MASSARI'S 20 KILLS NOT ENOUGH IN LOSS TO SFU

SAN DIEGO - This was just Simon Fraser's weekend and even the Sea Lions were not getting in the way of the momentum SFU built to walk away from the 2021 Seaside Invitational as the only unbeaten team.

Both teams were coming off big wins on Friday as PLNU pulled off the five-set victory over No. 22 Regis and Simon Fraser was able to snap No. 3 Cal State San Bernardino's 34-match winning streakand take down Cal State LA in five sets later that evening.

When the two teams met in the early match on Saturday, it looked like this could be another one that could go five sets to determine a winner, but SFU found ways to close out the sets to secure the match victory. After the teams split the first two sets, Simon Fraser overcame an early 8-3 deficit and carried that momentum to the set win. In the fourth, a kill by Anna Massari tied the match at 19-19 but Simon Fraser answered with a 6-2 run to close out the set with a 25-21 victory and secure the match.

Anna Massari registered a career-best 20 kills in the match as she hit an incredible .563. The freshman middle blocker needed only 32 swings to record those 20 kills, and she made just two errors. Tornina Hommes added 11 kills and Maggie Wolf posted a career-high 21 assists and 11 digs. Courtney Dyer had 22 digs following her record-breaking performance and Claire Smith and a team-leading four blocks. Brooke Dexter paced Simon Fraser with 17 kills.
