LATE THREE SINKS SEA LIONS

SAN DIEGO---A straight away three in the final seconds sunk the Point Loma Sea Lions (9-8 overall, 5-4 PacWest) in a 73-71 loss to the Chaminade Silverswords (8-8 overall, 6-4 PacWest), derailing a rare chance at consecutive wins on back-to-back days, Thursday night inside Golden Gymnasium.

Point Loma held a tight grip on the lead for a majority of the ballgame, leading for 35 minutes and 57 seconds. But the lead never swelled to more than 7 and Chaminade constantly hung close.

"We had the lead pretty much the whole game," said Point Loma Head Coach Matt Logie. "It's a game we needed to close out. But you have to credit Chaminade, they stepped up and made plays."

Kaden Anderson picked up where he left off last night with a three point basket on the opening possession.

While Point Loma built a 7-point lead in the first half with Myles Franklin steering the ship through much of the half, Chaminade chipped away toward the final segment of the half behind Isaac Amaral-Artharee.

After the Silverswords took their first lead of the game, Trey Anderson banked in a three to regain the lead for Point Loma. Brock Mackenzie then delivered back-to-back buckets.

Chaminade climbed back to take a late lead thanks to some solid three point shooting, as they hit 45% of their outside shots.

Down 2 points with 90 seconds left, Coby Barnes found Ben Okhotin, who nailed a corner three to give the Sea Lions a one point lead.

But the Silverswords had a late opportunity after a jump-ball gave them possession with 20 seconds remaining. Raazhel Watkins drive opened up Sawyer Storms at the top of the key, who knocked down a 3 with 10.4 seconds left.

Point Loma brought the ball into the front court before taking a timeout with 2.5 seconds. The Sea Lions would-be game-winner from three grazed off the rim, giving Chaminade the 73-71 win.

"I thought our guys battled with the quick turn around," Logie said. "With us playing last night and Chaminade not playing since Monday, our guys fought. In this setting, as hard as Chaminade play and to have just six turnovers, was a really good effort. We just needed to make more plays."

Kaden Anderson delivered game highs in both points and rebounds with 23 and 8. Brock Mackenzie finished with 13 points and Myles Franklin added 11.

Point Loma's busy week delivers a day off on Friday before they host Hawai'i Pacific Saturday afternoon at 4:00pm inside Golden Gymnasium.
