OKHOTIN'S CAREER-DAY LEADS SEA LIONS SWEEP OF HPU

SAN DIEGO—Ben Okhotin's career game put an exclamation point on an important 83-64 PacWest win for the Point Loma Sea Lions (10-8 overall, 6-4 PacWest) over the Hawaii Pacific Sharks (3-11 overall, 0-8 PacWest) Saturday afternoon inside Golden Gymnasium.

Okhotin, making his 8th consecutive appearance off the bench, instantly impacted the game by drilling multiple threes to kick-start PLNU's offense. The senior's hot start played a pivotal role in the Sea Lion's chipping away at HPU's early lead. A couple more threes from Okhotin gave Point Loma their first lead with 6 minutes left in the first half.

Prior to Okhotin, Point Loma struggled to get things going early, shooting just 2-6 from the field and 0-3 from deep.

Hawaii Pacific, on the other hand, came out firing. Their hot start found them leading the Sea Lions by 8 with about 13 minutes left in the half.

The Sea Lion's 33% field goal percentage to start the game climbed back up to 47%,  with Okhotin hitting 5 of PLNU's 6 three's. That translated to Point Loma swinging that 8 point deficit into a 4 point lead.

HPU pulled closer, including a last minute mid-range jumper from HPU's Jackson Young that cut Point Loma's lead to 36-35 at the half.

Freshman Pierce Davis's four offensive rebounds allowed PLNU to grow their lead in the second half. He dominated down low turning those boards into 8 points spurring much of Point Loma's 20 second chance points.

PLNU's Myles Franklin and Kaden Anderson, both known for their consistent scoring, remained reliable throughout the second half. Franklin kicked off the second half scoring with a three made possible by an Anderson steal. The pair joined Okhotin in the double-digit point club as the second half progressed.

When Franklin and Anderson weren't adding onto the Sea Lion's lead, Okhotin was continuing to drain threes. He added 11 points to his first half 19, giving him a career high 30. He tacked on three more 3-pointers in the second half to give him a career high 8 made three's in the game.

Point Loma finished the game shooting 52% from the field. Alongside Okhotin's 30, Franklin tallied 15 points while K. Anderson chipped in 13.

The win keeps the Sea Lions above .500 and in the thick of the PacWest race while extending their winning streak over Hawai'i Pacific to seven consecutive games.

Point Loma will host their fourth straight game on Thursday, January 27th when PacWest leading Hawai'i Hilo comes to Golden Gymnasium. Tip is set for 7:30 pm.
