SAN DIEGO---Another first half deficit was made a distant memory as the Point Loma Sea Lions (12-8 overall, 8-4 PacWest) dispatched the Chaminade Silverswords (8-12 overall, 6-8 PacWest) 72-57 Saturday night inside Golden Gymnasium.
The visiting Chaminade led by as much as 7 midway through the first but Point Loma against found its rhythm thanks to a big boost from their second unit.
Down 41-40, Point Loma ripped off a 15-6 run which ballooned into 30-9 run turning the game into a route by the under 4 media timeout.
"I thought our guys really put their foot on the gas defensively in the second half." Point Loma Head Coach
Matt Logie said. "Our activity level was really high. We were able to create some turnovers and closed down the paint and that allowed us to get out in transition."
Kaden Anderson posted a double-double to lead the Sea Lions with 19 points and 10 rebounds while
Ben Okhotin also added 19 points and
Brock Mackenzie chipped in 17.
Brian Goracke and
Trey Anderson combined for 10 points off the bench.
"We were looking to come off the bench and give energy." Anderson said. "I like to play hard and we feed off of each other. Its infectious throughout the whole team."
Anderson delivered 4 assists in the big run as Point Loma turned a wealth of defensive stops into transition points.
The Sea Lions had 19 total assists on 25 made baskets.
"Our guys have always been unselfish." We're just figuring out to make the right decisions and the right reads. We're getting great movement. To have 19 assists against that team that really tries to make you play stationary is a credit to our ball movement."
Point Loma finishes the five game home-stand by avenging their only loss of the 9-day stretch and hands Chaminade its fourth consecutive defeat.
The Sea Lions hit the road over the next week to play Fresno Pacific and Holy Names. They will return home February 9
th to host Dominican inside Golden Gymnasium.
