SEA LIONS TUNE-UP FOR HOMESTRETCH OF SEASON

10/17/2022 4:56:00 PM

PLNU Women's Cross Country has officially reached the homestretch of its season.

The Sea Lions raced at the Highlander Classic in Riverside on Saturday, using it as a preparation meet for the upcoming NCAA D2 Pre-Nationals Invite, PacWest Championships and NCAA West Regionals.

"For the most part, our women used today as a workout and didn't go max effort," PLNU Head Coach Landon Bright said on the strategy of his team's race. "We probably held out three out of our top-five runners. It was a little bit of a different set up for us but we did what we wanted to do, got a good effort and good conditioning in."

In a race hosted by UC Irvine that was stacked with NCAA Division I competition, Point Loma placed 20th out of 26 countable teams.

Aubrie Nex finished the 6K in first for the Sea Lions, placing 96th out of 282 runners in a time of 22:30.8. Sydney Stevens was next (143rd, 23:32.2), with Elizabeth Satterlee (148th, 23:35.9), Sarah Pratt (184th, 24:15.4) and Bree Gentry (185th, 24:16.5) rounding out PLNU's scoring five.

"It was really fast," Bright said of the race. "The meet had some really good talent, so the ladies did get some experience competing against those teams to hopefully use that moving forward. Overall, it was a good race and I'm looking forward to seeing what we can do in the next three."

Point Loma will next compete at the NCAA D2 Pre-Nationals Invite on Saturday in University Place, Washington. The race at Chambers Bay is scheduled to begin at 11:20 a.m.
