PLNU GETS POSTSEASON PREVIEW AT CHAMBERS BAY

10/22/2022 9:44:00 PM

(UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash.) At the D2 Pre-Nationals Invite on Saturday at Chambers Bay, the Sea Lions not only got a sneak peek at the course that will host the NCAA Championships but also had the chance to compete against conference opponents it will see in a couple weeks at the PacWest Championships.

"It was a good chance to see where we're at going up against a couple of our conference opponents," Head Coach Landon Bright said. "We have a good idea of what it'll take to beat them. The goal for us right now is to make sure we're healthy and sharp in two weeks. We have our eyes on some of the teams that snuck ahead of us today."

As a team, Point Loma placed 17th out of 29 teams in the 6K Division II race.

"The women had a pretty solid race in a competitive field," Bright said. "We did a fairly good job of getting out, getting in the race and competing well."

Aubrie Nex (43rd – 22:18.90) and Ryley Burns (83rd – 22:59.3) finished in the top-100 out of 236 runners, while Maddie Reeves (118th – 23:35.80), Sydney Stevens (139th – 24:03.40) and Bree Gentry (145th – 24:08.20) rounded out PLNU's scoring five.

Having battled a few injuries in recent weeks, Point Loma will now have the chance to rest up before the PacWest Championships on Nov. 5 at Oyster Bay Regional Shoreline in San Leandro.

"From my standpoint, we can definitely do a lot better," Bright said. "There's definitely more potential. I'm looking forward to seeing what we can do at the conference meet and getting ready for that."
