(OAKLAND, Calif.) PLNU Men's Soccer outshot Holy Names 13-1 and forced nine saves in the first half, but weren't able to score until it was too late, as the Hawks ended the Sea Lions' six-match unbeaten run by a 2-1 margin.
Â
Despite an onslaught of pressure from Point Loma, the opening 45 minutes ended 0-0, as HNU's goalkeeper kept the home side in the match with an array of saves.
Â
The Sea Lions were made to pay early in the second half, with the Hawks scoring twice within 10 minutes of each other, in the 54th and 63rd.
Â
Milo Libby put a couple efforts on target off set pieces before PLNU was finally able to find the back of the net through
Samuel Tuscano just over two minutes from time.
Â
It proved to be too little, too late for the visitors, who could not get a shot off in the final couple minutes.
Â
Holy Names ended not only PLNU's six-match unbeaten streak this season, but also the Sea Lions' six-match unbeaten run in the series between the two teams, dating back to 2015.
Â
Point Loma (4-4-2 overall, 1-1 PacWest) will look to rebound next week against two of the preseason top-three teams in the PacWest – Wednesday on the road at Biola (4-3-3, 3-0) and Saturday at home against three-time defending conference champion Azusa Pacific (3-6-2, 1-1-1).
