SHOOTING WOES PLAGUE SEA LIONS

SAN DIEGO— Two of the top three defensive teams in the PacWest made scoring hard to come by as the matchup resulted in the Point Loma Sea Lions (13-11 overall, 8-9 PacWest) falling to the Biola Eagles (14-8 overall, 10-5 PacWest) 52-35 on Wednesday night inside Golden Gym.

The rugged pace saw both teams struggle to score consistently with each offense posting a quarter under 15% from the field. Point Loma's recurring third quarter burst pulled them closer but could not get them over the top against the PacWest rival.

Biola started with relentless defense over the first five minutes of the game. Point Loma's early answers came from Cara Liggins who converted an and-one and drained a three in the first quarter.

Biola refused to give the Sea Lions any breathing room by forcing six turnovers in the first quarter and another six in the second quarter. Biola managed to hold Point Loma to just two points in the second quarter, and at the end of the half the Eagles were up by 20.

Point Loma repeated their strong third quarter start when Ellie Turk caught fire to begin the third, draining a quick three. Turk drew a pair of fouls on her next attempts from deep and Point Loma began to chip away at Biola's lead.

The Sea Lions most efficient quarter was the third and it seemed as if they were reeling things in closer. Point Loma scored 19 points in the period, the highest scoring period for either team all night.

Point Loma surrendered 24 total turnovers on the night with 19 of those being steals from the constant pressure Biola threw at PLNU all night.

Biola found their adjustments in the final quarter of the half again, holding Point Loma to just a pair of free-throws in the final quarter.

Turk finished with 13 points, being the lone Sea Lion in the double-digit point category. Haylee Saurette and Annika Thayer did their part down low, leading the team with seven rebounds each.

Point Loma will be back in action for Homecoming when they face Concordia this Saturday night at 6:00pm inside Golden Gymnasium.
