LEISCHNER AND PAINTAL GRAB SINGLES WINS OVER #6 HPU

SAN DIEGO-The Point Loma Sea Lions (6-6 overall) put up an impressive fight, falling 2-5 against 6th ranked Hawaii Pacific Sharks (5-0 overall) Thursday on the Point Loma Tennis Courts.

In doubles play, a few plays extremely were tight on the lines of court 2 each swayed in favor of the Shark, giving Hawai'i Pacific an early advantage.

Alexander Leischner, was a powerhouse in the back, paired with Alejandro Castaneda's confident short return locked in a win on court 3.

Doubles came down to the final matchup on court 1 as the Sharks struggled to return Tyler Davis's strong serve. Fierce overhand shots from Nabeel Khan helped push Point Loma to set point but HPU took control on the tiebreak, winning 7-4, and tallied the doubles point taking the 1-0 match lead.

Singles play started as a battle in the opening sets. HPU took set one on half of the courts, Point Loma jumped in front on the other half. Hawaii Pacific quickly clinched on 4, 2, and 5 to stretch their lead to 4-0.

Davis didn't give in easily as he commanded his first set 6-1. But Davis dropped the 2nd set 3-6, and his opponent took over in the end winning the third set 1-6 putting HPU up 5-0.

Point Loma was able to tally its first point as Leischner found rhythm becoming the only Sea Lion to win doubles and singles play this morning smashing his opponent 6-2 in the first set on court 3, and presiding 7-5 in the second. PLNU was still down 5-1.

Jasdeep Paintal added his third consecutive singles win in a row thanks to an energetic tiebreak. Paintal delivered a dominant performance in the first set, 6-3 but lost momentum in the second losing 1-6. Paintal closed out the victory 6-3 despite the Sea Lions falling 5-2.

It will be a quick turnaround for the men's team, as they host Michigan Tech tomorrow at 3:00 pm on the Point Loma Tennis Courts.
