SAN DIEGO– After an energetic beginning to secure the doubles point, the Point Loma Sea Lions (4-5 overall ) held onto an aggressive start against Westcliff Warriors (1-5), with a 4-0 sweep Friday afternoon at the Point Loma Tennis Courts.
PLNU came out scorching in doubles, winning the first point on every court. But Westcliff wound up taking the early lead in doubles, taking court 2 by the score of 6-2.
Tyler Davis and
Nabeel Khan quickly answered back with a 6-1 win on court 1.
Point Loma's hot start translated on courts 1 and 3 with
David Strassburger and
Elias Weeks coming out on top of an extremely close match in the third flight.
Multiple lead changes and break-point opportunities secured the doubles point for the Sea Lions.
Elias Weeks finished the last two points close to the net, backing up a pair of strong serves by
David Strassburger. The Sea Lions entered into singles play with a 1-0 lead.
The momentum stayed with Point Loma as
Nabeel Khan quickly swept his opponent 6-0 on court 3. Khan followed the impressive showing with a 6-2 win in set 2, as he added the second point for the Sea Lions.
Lukas Schuster found himself in a tie break but displayed composure to win in straight sets.
David Strassburger clinched the match and tallied the 4th and final point for Point Loma with a strong 6-3 second set.
