SAN DIEGO– What started as a close battle turned into a comfortable 6-1 win for the Point Loma Sea Lions (5-5 overall) over the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks (2-8 overall) Saturday at the Point Loma Tennis Courts.
Doubles play swayed in favor of the Sea Lions as Alejandro Casteneda/Alexander Leischner duo dominated each rally. The partners showed great patience as they waited for the perfect moment to strike, leading them to a 6-1 win on court 2.
Tyler Davis and
Nabeel Khan were close behind, finishing 6-3 to put the Sea Lions up 1-0 over the Mavericks entering into singles play.
Jasdeep Paintal rapidly built a lead before taking down a 6-2, 6-1 victory.
Khan displayed powerful overhand shots on his way to a 6-4, 6-2 win on court 3.
Tyler Davis dropped the first set 6-3 before fighting off a match point and securing the 7-6 win in the 2
nd set. Davis sent the home crowd into a frenzy, holding off a 10-6 victory.
David Strassburger found himself in a tight matchup in set one, ultimately pulling out the #2 singles matchup in straight sets.
It's a busy week for the Sea Lions as they host PacWest foe, Fresno Pacific, on Tuesday at 1:00 pm. They will welcome in Hawai'i Pacific on Thursday, Michigan Tech on Friday, and Holy Names on Saturday.
