AZUSA, Calif.-Despite the doubles win by the pairing of
Samantha Neilson and
Faith Pearson this season, the Point Loma Sea Lions (14-6 overall) fell 7-0 to the Azusa Pacific Cougars (13-6 overall) Saturday at the Munson & Bavougian Tennis Complex.
The duo of Neilson and Pearson paired together for just the 1st time this season but looked like they had not missed a beat, taking their match 6-1.
Their win tied doubles at 1-1, but APU secured the team point, taking court three 6-2.
APU also took the first set in singles on five of the six courts with Neilson scoring the lone set victory for PLNU on court four with a 6-2 win.
Azusa would quickly take the match with wins on courts six, three, and two to go up 4-0 on the Sea Lions.
The Cougars added two more points thanks to straight-set victories on one and five.
APU also tied the match against Neilson, with a tiebreaker in set three neck and neck at 9-9 before the Cougars completed the sweep 11-9.
The loss halts Point Loma's six-match winning streak.
Point Loma will return home next week for their final two home matches of the season. The Sea Lions host Concordia on Tuesday at 2:00 pm and then will welcome Biola for Senior Day on Saturday, April 9
th at 11:00 am.
