(HONOLULU) A potent first-half offense and a stingy second-half defense led No. 21 PLNU Men's Basketball to a convincing 90-59 win over Hawaii Pacific on Thursday night.
Â
"It was a great team effort tonight," Head Coach
Matt Logie said. "We were very good offensively in the first half and then our leaders stepped up early in the second half to anchor our defense."
Â
The Sea Lions shot 56% and made nine 3-pointers in a 52-point first half, before limiting the Sharks to just 24 points in the second period, as Point Loma turned a 17-point halftime lead into a 31-point victory.
Â
PLNU converted 18 HPU turnovers into a 26-7 advantage in points off turnovers, while also holding a 30-22 margin in bench points.
Â
"I really liked how our guys played together and within the confines of our system," Logie said. "It was great to get some of our bench extended minutes and experience as well."
Â
Kaden Anderson,
Luke Haupt and
Brian Goracke all scored 16 points to lead the Sea Lions, while
Tobin Karlberg joined them in double figures with his 10 points.
Â
Point Loma (13-3 overall, 8-0 PacWest), winners of nine-straight, conclude its Hawaii trip on Saturday with a matchup against Chaminade. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. PST / 3 p.m. HST.
