For the first time in program history, PLNU Women's Soccer will host the first and second rounds of the NCAA West Regional after being announced as the No. 1 seed in the region.
As the top seed and one of two regional hosts, PLNU gets a first-round bye and will play in the second round on Saturday against the winner of Thursday's first-round matchup between fourth-seeded Concordia and fifth-seeded Cal State San Marcos.
Point Loma (12-3-1 overall, 8-2 PacWest) is making a fifth-straight appearance in the NCAA postseason, having reached at least the second round in the previous four editions.
The Sea Lions won a fourth PacWest title in five years, clinching the conference crown with a 5-1 victory at Fresno Pacific on Saturday. That was PLNU's sixth-straight win to close out the regular season.
Concordia (12-2-2 overall, 7-1-2 PacWest), making a second-consecutive NCAA regional appearance, earned an at-large bid into the regional after finishing second in the PacWest standings, just a point behind Point Loma. The Golden Eagles beat the Sea Lions, 1-0, in Irvine on Sep. 23.
Cal State San Marcos (11-2-6 overall, 6-0-5 CCAA) finished second in the CCAA regular season standings before winning the CCAA Tournament to earn the conference's automatic berth into the regional.
The Cougars are riding a 14-match unbeaten streak into the regional, having picked up a pair of 1-0 victories in the conference tournament over Cal State LA, the third seed in the region, and Cal Poly Pomona.
PLNU defeated CSUSM, 2-0, on Sep. 9.
