(SAN MARCOS, Calif.) In its first road test of the season, PLNU Men's Basketball passed with flying colors.
After opening the campaign with three-straight home games, Point Loma hit the road for the first time on Friday and came away with a 75-62 victory over Cal State San Marcos behind a second-half offensive surge.
"It was good to see guys get going in the second half who are so capable," Head Coach
Justin Downer said. "Specifically,
Wynton Brown,
Zack Paulsen and
Jaden Matingou. All have been consistent in their work, so it was nice to see them be rewarded for that."
Paulsen scored 15 of his game-high 20 points in the second half, while Brown scored all nine of his points after halftime.
PLNU's scorching second half included a 13-0 run that helped the Sea Lions overturn an eight-point deficit.
Point Loma held a slim 30-29 lead at halftime despite shooting 34.5% from the field, but the Sea Lions increased that to 51.9% in the second half, sinking 7-of-15 (46.7%) shots from behind the arc.
PLNU dominated on the glass throughout the game, outrebounding CSUSM 46-27 while holding a 15-0 advantage in second-chance points.
Jake Lifgren nearly matched Paulsen's scoring output with 19 points, finishing just shy of his third 20-point game of the season.
Point Loma (2-2 overall) will now travel to Nampa, Idaho to take part in the NNU Thanksgiving Classic, where the Sea Lions will take on Central Washington on Friday and tournament host Northwest Nazarene on Saturday.
