(SAN DIEGO) PLNU Men's Basketball overcame a 12-point first-half deficit in its PacWest opener on Saturday to defeat Concordia, 65-60, inside Golden Gym.
The Golden Eagles led by 12 with 8:59 to play in the first before the Sea Lions cut their deficit in half before the end of the opening period.
Point Loma then outscored Concordia by 11 in the second half to extend its conference regular season winning streak to 32.
CUI scored the first basket after play resumed to go up by eight, before
Zack Paulsen corralled an offensive rebound and got the putback to go to tie it up at 38 apiece.
Paulsen's jumper at the 13:09 mark then gave PLNU its first lead since 13:53 to play in the first half.
The Sea Lions extended their advantage to a game-high eight on a
Wynton Brown bucket before three-straight free throws from
Jake Lifgren once again put the hosts up by eight with 1:19 remaining.
A Concordia triple made it a three-point game with just 10 seconds left before Lifgren sealed the victory with a pair of free throws at the other end.
Paulsen led PLNU with 17 points, while Lifgren (14 points) and
Coby Barnes (12 points) joined him in double figures.
Wynton Brown scored eight points and brought down a Sea Lions career-high 13 rebounds.
Point Loma (6-3 overall) returns to PacWest action on Saturday at Westmont. Tip-off in Santa Barbara is scheduled for 4 p.m.
