(SAN DIEGO) No. 21 PLNU Women's Tennis opened up its 2023 season with a resounding 7-0 home win over visiting Westmont on Saturday morning.

"The women's team started the season strong today with a total team effort against a tough Westmont team," Head Coach
Curt Wheeler said. "The ladies played with great focus and confidence today and that showed in the final score."

The Sea Lions won all three doubles matches, with
Faith Pearson and
Joelle Lanz starting things off with a 6-2 victory at No. 3 matchup.
Arianna Audelo and
Amanda Letzring followed suit at number one, winning 6-3, before
Angelique Friedrich and
Rachel Whittington made it a clean sweep with their 6-3 win at number two.

After picking up the doubles point, Point Loma also swept all six singles matchups. Lanz (No. 2), Friedrich (No. 3) and Whittington (No. 6) all won by identical 6-0, 6-1 scorelines.

Thelma Sepulveda came out victorious at number five (6-1, 6-3), while Letzring took care of business at number four (6-3, 6-2). Audelo clinched the shutout with a comeback win at number one (3-6, 7-6, 10-4).

Point Loma (1-0 overall) will next travel to play NCAA Division I Cal State Fullerton on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. before returning home to host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday at 2 p.m.
