PLNU PUSHES DIVISION I FULLERTON TO THE END

(FULLERTON, Calif.) No. 21 PLNU Women's Tennis pushed NCAA Division I Cal State Fullerton all the way to the end in a 4-0 defeat to the Titans on Tuesday afternoon.

The Sea Lions were tied or leading in three unfinished singles matches and were tied in one uncompleted doubles contest, showcasing Point Loma's high potential this season.

"The women competed really well today against a tough CSU Fullerton Division I team," Head Coach Curt Wheeler said. "Even though the final score was 0-4, we had chances to win the doubles point and also had four singles matches that were close three-set battles."

PLNU's No. 2 doubles pairing Angelique Friedrich and Rachel Whittington were level 5-5 when CSUF clinched the doubles point.

Friedrich was then one game away from winning at No. 3 singles (6-4, 5-7, 5-1) when the Titans sealed the overall match victory.

Amanda Letzring (6-4, 4-6, 3-3) and Thelma Sepulveda (4-6, 6-3, 1-1) were each tied at No. 4 and No. 5 singles respectively when the match was called.

At number one, Arianna Audelo also put in a valiant performance in a 2-6, 6-4, 3-6 defeat.

Point Loma (1-1 overall) returns home to play Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Friday at 2 p.m.
