(SAN DIEGO) PLNU Women's Tennis wasted no time in beating Holy Names on Friday, 4-0, playing singles first to ensure they got the match in before it started raining.
Â
"The women's team did a tremendous job of adjusting to a start time moved earlier in the day due to the forecasted rain," Head Coach
Curt Wheeler said. "Starting with singles due to the weather forecast is something the ladies are not used to, but they did great of making the adjustment and playing strong tennis."
Â
The two teams played to clinch, meaning the first to win four singles matched claimed the overall victory with doubles being skipped entirely.
Â
Neither
Rachel Whittington at No. 6 nor
Joelle Lanz at No. 2 lost a single game in their 6-0, 6-0 singles victories.
Â
Thelma Sepulveda also didn't lose a game in her second set as part of a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5.
Â
Arianna Audelo then clinched the match with PLNU's fourth singles win, coming out on top at No. 1 by a 6-1, 6-3 score.
Â
Both
Angelique Friedrich (6-1, 5-3) and
Amanda Letzring (6-0, 3-2) were leading at No. 3 and 4 respectively when the match was concluded.
Â
Point Loma (7-3 overall), winners of five straight, will look to continue its good run of form against Hawaii Hilo on Monday at home. Doubles play is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
