(SAN DIEGO) PLNU Women's Tennis, the PacWest Team of the Week, lived up to the honor with a 7-0 win over Hawaii Hilo on Monday and then a 5-0 result against Bowdoin on Tuesday.
Â
The two wins are the team's sixth and seventh in a row since the Sea Lions last lost on Feb. 17 at No. 15 Azusa Pacific.
Â
Against Hilo on Monday, Point Loma won both doubles matches that finished to take the doubles point.
Â
Rachel Whittington and
Thelma Sepulveda cruised at No. 3, 6-0, before
Arianna Audelo and
Amanda Letzring sealed the deal with their 6-3 win at No. 2.
Angelique Friedrich and
Joelle Lanz were leading 5-4 when their match was left unfinished with the doubles point already decided.
Â
The Sea Lions then won all six singles matches in straight sets, with Whittington starting things off with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 6.
Â
Friedrich (No. 3 – 6-2, 6-1), Audelo (No. 1 – 6-3, 6-3), Letzring (No. 4 – 6-1, 6-4), Sepulveda (No. 5 – 7-5, 6-2) and Lanz (No. 2 – 6-3, 6-2) then all won their singles matches in that order to complete PLNU's third 7-0 win of the season.
Â
Â
On Tuesday against Bowdoin, the Sea Lions could've completed a second-consecutive 7-0 sweep in as many days if it weren't for rain preventing the two remaining singles matches from finishing.
Â
After the visitors won the first doubles match to finish, PLNU picked up wins at No. 3 and 2, in that order, to take an early 1-0 lead.
Â
Whittington and
Faith Pearson trailed 3-4 at No. 3 but earned a break to flip the script and spark them to a 6-4 win.
Â
Then Friedrich's overhand volley clinched the overall doubles point and a 6-4 win for her and partner Lanz at No. 2 doubles.
Â
In singles, Audelo (No. 1 – 6-2, 6-3), Lanz (No. 2 – 6-0, 6-1), Letzring (No. 4 – 6-0, 7-5) and Sepulveda (6-4, 6-4) all won in singles before the rain prevented Friedrich and Pearson from completing their matches.
Â
Friedrich led 6-4, 5-4 at the time play was suspended, while Pearson was knotted in a tight super tiebreak, 7-7, after winning the first set 6-3 and losing the second 4-6.
Â
Point Loma (9-3 overall) will next host Concordia on Saturday at 11 a.m. in a makeup match from Feb. 22.
