PLNU BEATS FPU IN STRAIGHT SETS

(SAN DIEGO) No. 20 PLNU Women's Tennis didn't lose a single set in a dominant 7-0 win over Fresno Pacific on Monday morning, marking the team's second-straight victory over a PacWest opponent.

"The women's team had a great performance today against Fresno Pacific," Head Coach Curt Wheeler said. "The ladies played well in every doubles and singles match and that showed in the team score."

Angelique Friedrich and Joelle Lanz didn't lose a single game at No. 2 doubles in their 6-0 victory, before Rachel Whittington and Thelma Sepulveda clinched the doubles point with their 6-3 win at No. 3.

Arianna Audelo and Amanda Letzring were leading 5-4 when the doubles point was clinched, so their match was officially left unfinished with the doubles result already in hand.

All six singles matches went in the Sea Lions' favor, with Letzring and Whittington both dominating 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 and 6 respectively.

Friedrich then defeated her opponent 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3, before Audelo (7-6, 7-5) and Lanz (7-6, 6-1) won first set tiebreakers on their way to victories at No. 1 and 2.

Sepulveda rolled in her first set at No. 5, 6-1, and then completed her straight-set win with a 7-6 tiebreak victory in the second set.

Point Loma (6-3 overall) will look to make it three-straight wins over PacWest opposition on Friday when the Sea Lions host Holy Names at 2 p.m.
