WOMEN'S TENNIS HONORS SENIORS WITH WIN OVER ACU

(SAN DIEGO) PLNU Women's Tennis honored its three graduating seniors with a dominant 7-0 victory over visiting Arizona Christian on Friday afternoon.

Before the match, Angelique Friedrich, Faith Pearson and Rachel Whittington were recognized for their contributions to the program over their PLNU careers.

"It was a fun day for the women's team, honoring three seniors who've been here all four years," Head Coach Curt Wheeler said. "They've all been very important parts of our lineups in those four years."

All three seniors were victorious in doubles before also winning their singles matches as well.

Pearson and Arianna Audelo won the first doubles match to finish, 6-1, at No. 2. Then the duos of Whittington and Thelma Sepulveda (No. 3) and Friedrich and Joelle Lanz (No. 1) both won 6-0 to clinch the doubles point.

Then in singles, neither Pearson nor Whittington lost a game in their matches, both winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 and 5 respectively.

Amanda Letzring won her first set at No. 4, 6-0, before winning the second, 6-1. Sepulveda then improved to 18-1 in singles on the season with her 15th-straight singles victory, winning 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2.

Audelo claimed a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1, with Friedrich completing the overall match sweep with her 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 3.

"Mixed emotions," Wheeler said of the day. "It was fun to see the seniors play but sad as well. I know they enjoyed it and had a great time. They've been a big part of the program and have done a lot of stuff for Point Loma. I know we'll miss them but I'm sure they have great things ahead as well."

Point Loma (14-6 overall) finishes its regular season on Saturday at 2 p.m. when the Sea Lions travel locally to play UC San Diego in its final match before next week's PacWest Championships.
