(AZUSA, Calif.) PLNU Volleyball fought back from a two-set-to-none deficit against Simon Fraser on Saturday to force a fourth set, but the deficit proved too much overcome as the Red Leafs prevailed (25-13, 25-19, 21-25, 25-22) in the final match of the CPP/APU Tournament.
Â
In the third set that Point Loma won, the Sea Lions trailed 10-15 but battled back to take a 20-18 lead with the help of a 4-0 run that included a pair of
Mariah Hughes kills.
Â
After SFU briefly tied the set, PLNU scored five of the next six points, with
Abigail Nua's kill capping off the stanza to prolong the match.
Â
But the Red Leafs managed to win a back-and-forth fourth set to clinch the victory and prevent a deciding fifth set from being played.
Â
Nua led PLNU with 15 kills, while
Anna Massari joined her in double figures with 11. Hughes set a new career-high with nine.
Â
Defensively, Massari posted six blocks while
Rosie Cline led the team with a career-high 13 digs.
Â
Point Loma (3-4 overall) has now concluded its non-conference season and will begin PacWest play on Wednesday at home against Dominican at 6 p.m.
