(HONOLULU) PLNU Women's Basketball capped off a perfect trip to Hawai'i by scoring its most points in almost two years, defeating Chaminade 91-61 on Saturday afternoon.
"I'm so proud of our team for coming out today with tremendous energy and enthusiasm," Head Coach
Charity Elliott said. "Thursday night took a lot out of us and yet we bounced back today and took care of business."
Point Loma raced out of the gates with its most points in any first quarter this season, taking a 24-16 lead after one.
The Sea Lions then held the Silverswords to single-digit points in the second quarter to take a 41-25 halftime advantage.
PLNU continued its offensive momentum in the second half, scoring 50 points, its most in any half this season.
"I thought our transition offense and transition defense were both really solid tonight," Elliott said.
Point Loma only made one 3-pointer but dominated in the painted area, scoring 64 points in the paint.
Tavia Rowell led all scorers with 15 points, while
Annika Thayer recorded a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Hannah Golan made it three Sea Lions in double figures with 10 points, while
Maddie Mersch nearly made it four by adding nine points of her own.
Ellie Turk tied her career-high with nine assists.
"Ellie led us so well tonight and made some phenomenal passes leading to some easy baskets, and Annika gave us a double-double off the bench," Elliott said.
Point Loma (11-9 overall, 7-5 PacWest), winners of three straight, returns to Golden Gym on Thursday to play Dominican at 5:30 p.m.
"It was a tremendous week for this team and we are excited to get home and keep moving forward," Elliott said.
