SEA LIONS TAKE DOWN NO. 25 PENGUINS

(SAN DIEGO) After five-straight games on the road, a return to Golden Gym was a welcome one for PLNU Women's Basketball, as Point Loma defeated No. 25 Dominican 72-62 on Thursday evening.

The win is the second victory this season against a ranked opponent for the Sea Lions, who ended the Penguins' seven-game winning streak.

Point Loma led by one at halftime after a perfectly drawn-up inbounds play with 1.1 seconds remaining in the half. Ellie Turk found Katie Scott with an inch-perfect lob pass for the 6-foot-3 center to lay-up and in to put the Sea Lions in front.

PLNU then turned it on in the third quarter, outscoring DUC 25-14 to lead by 12 going into the fourth.

Eiley Tippins had nine rebounds in the first half alone and quickly reached double-digits in the third quarter with an offensive rebound and putback.

Another well-executed in-bounds play out of the media timeout capped a 7-0 Sea Lions run, as Alyssa Munn put the Sea Lions ahead by double digits.

Scott then turned provider for Turk with a no-look pass to the corner for a 3 that put Point Loma up by 12, its largest lead up to that point.

Then in the fourth quarter, PLNU's advantage got no lower than eight the rest of the way, as the Sea Lions won their fourth-straight game and improved to 6-2 inside Golden Gym this season.

Tavia Rowell scored 15 points to lead the team, while Ellie Turk and Shayla O'Neil both tallied stat lines of 11 points and six rebounds.

Tippins recorded a double-double of 10 points and 15 rebounds, while also dishing out five assists, as over half of the team's assists came from its post players.

Point Loma (12-9 overall, 8-5 PacWest) remains at home on Saturday when the Sea Lions host Academy of Art at 3 p.m.
