Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Tim Heiduk, Associate Athletic Director for Communications

PLNU COMEBACK BID FALLS JUST SHORT AGAINST UHH

(SAN DIEGO) PLNU Women's Basketball got the stop it needed down the stretch but had a game-tying 3-point attempt blocked at the buzzer, as Hawai'i Hilo handed Point Loma its first home loss of the season, 74-71, on Saturday afternoon.

The visitors shot 65.4% in the first half and 6-for-10 from behind the arc, leading by as many as 11 before Ellie Turk's 3-point play cut the Sea Lions' deficit to seven going into the locker room.

PLNU won the third quarter, as Hannah Golan's and-one gave the hosts their first lead of the contest at the 1:28 mark, only for Hilo to go back up by one entering the fourth.

Katie Scott restored PLNU's lead in the final quarter and her two free throws then extended that to as many as three, but UHH scored the next seven points to regain control.

Alyssa Munn got Point Loma to within one with 1:37 remaining, which was as close as Point Loma would get, as Hilo's Kamalu Kamakawiwoole made two triples late in the game as part of her game-high 27 points.

Scott's bucket then made it a one-possession game with six seconds remaining before PLNU forced a turnover to get the ball back. However, a game-tying 3-pointer was not in the cards for the Sea Lions, who shot just 1-for-16 from behind the arc on the day.

Turk (14 points) and Scott (14 points, 5 assists) led the team in scoring, with Munn (12 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds) and Golan (11 points) joining them in double figures.

Point Loma (8-6 overall, 4-2 PacWest) returns to Golden Gym on Wednesday to host Biola in the final game of its four-game homestand. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
