(SAN FRANCISCO) Looking to keep its undefeated season rolling, No. 17 PLNU Volleyball did just that with a 3-1 (26-28, 25-17, 25-16, 25-11) win over Academy of Art, improving to 14-0 overall (8-0 PacWest) on the season.
How It Happened
After a back-and-forth first set was won by ART U, Point Loma responded in deliberate fashion. PLNU used a 9-1 run to take a resounding 17-9 lead in the second, before the Urban Knights battled back to within one. But the Sea Lions answered back with an 8-1 stretch, which included three PLNU blocks, to even the match after an attack error ended the second set, 25-17.
In the third set, the Sea Lions took an early lead thanks to five kills from
Abigail Nua. Instead of using a big run, they slowly chipped away to extend their advantage before scoring five unanswered to close out the set, 25-16, after a combined block from
Avery Allemann and
Gabby Hicks.
Looking to clinch the match in the fourth, Point Loma did so in dominating fashion. After taking a 10-7 lead, the Sea Lions proceeded to outscore the Urban Knights 15-4 over the rest of the set to cap off a 3-1 victory.
Saren Rogers had four kills in the fourth to lead PLNU's attack that hit .458 in the set, while Point Loma held ART U to a -.138 attack % in the final stanza.
