SEA LIONS KEEP IT ROLLING, SWEEP PENGUINS

(SAN DIEGO) A night after setting new program records for winning streak and best start to a season, No. 15 PLNU Volleyball kept those streaks rolling with a three-set sweep of Dominican (25-18, 25-16, 25-11) on Friday.
 
Point Loma has now won 17 straight sets and 30 of its past 31.
 
The visiting Penguins scored the first point of the match, only for the Sea Lions to storm back by scoring the next seven, including three straight kills from Saren Rogers and four overall in that stretch.
 
Charleston Tidwell and Kate Sullivan combined for a block late in the first set, as PLNU held Dominican to a -0.059 hitting % in the opening stanza.
 
Anna Massari then broke open the second set, scoring four straight points almost single-handedly, with three kills and a block to put the hosts up 17-10. Massari and Abigail Nua then stuffed their opponents at the net to clinch the set.
 
Then in the third, a kill by Nua broke a 3-3 tie, which she followed up with a pair of service aces in a 6-0 Sea Lions run.
 
Nua posted six kills overall in the third, as PLNU saved its largest set margin of victory for last.
   
Sophia Baugh (34 assists) orchestrated an offense that hit recorded its highest single match attack % (.419) of the year thus far.
 
Nua led all players with 11 kills, followed by Rogers with nine and Massari with seven.
 
Makenna Joyce's 12 kills led the defense, while the quartet of Massari (5 blocks), Avery Allemann (4 blocks), Tidwell (3 blocks) and Genevieve Hara (3 blocks) dominated at the net.
 
Point Loma (19-0 overall, 13-0 PacWest) returns to Golden Gym on Thursday, as the Sea Lions host Biola on ALZtogether Night in support of Alzheimer's awareness.
