SEA LIONS' STREAK UP TO 20 WITH WIN OVER BIOLA

(SAN DIEGO) No. 15 PLNU Volleyball's winning streak to start the season reached 20 on Thursday night, as Point Loma defeated Biola in four sets (25-14, 20-25, 25-12, 25-17) inside Golden Gym.

The Sea Lions started strongly against the Eagles, racing out to an immediate 6-0 lead. With PLNU ahead 15-10, the hosts went on another 6-0 stretch to go up by double digits. Avery Allemann and Ellie Nichols then combined for a block to close out the first set in convincing fashion.

Point Loma then scored the first three points of the second set before Biola took a 14-10 advantage. Out of a PLNU timeout, the Sea Lions scored the next five points to retake their lead, only for the Eagles to go on a 5-0 run of their own to ultimately tie the match by winning the set.

That set was only the seventh that Point Loma has lost in its unbeaten start to the season and ended its set winning streak at 19.

PLNU responded with a dominant third set, however, limiting BU to a -0.143 hitting % in the third.

The Sea Lions then closed out the match in the fourth stanza on a Charleston Tidwell kill, as PLNU saved its best offensive set for last with a .429 attack %.

Abigail Nua (14 kills), Genevieve Hara (12 kills), Anna Massari (11 kills) and Saren Rogers (11 kills) all reached double-digit kills.

A trio of Sea Lions recorded double-digit digs – Makenna Joyce (18), Nua (13) and Kira Federico (10) – with Macy Reynolds (9) almost making it four.

Massari tallied six blocks at the net, while Hara and Allemann posted four blocks each.

Point Loma (20-0 overall, 14-0 PacWest) returns to Golden Gym on Saturday to host Westmont at 2 p.m.

The Sea Lions defeated the Warriors in four sets in Santa Barbara back on Sep. 21.
