SEA LIONS RALLY IN FIRST SET TO SPARK SWEEP OF WARRIORS

(SAN DIEGO) No. 15 PLNU Volleyball pulled off a remarkable first set comeback on its way to a 26-24, 25-16, 25-15 sweep of Westmont on Saturday afternoon in Golden Gym.

The Warriors led the Sea Lions in the opening stanza, 20-12, before Point Loma began to crawl its way back.

Strong serving from Gabby Hicks helped PLNU get back to within two before the visitors held triple set point, leading 24-21.

Abigail Nua then took over, combining for a block with Avery Allemann before back-to-back Nua Kills and a Nua solo block put the Sea Lions in front. Immediately afterward, Allemann closed out the set with a kill of her own, as Point Loma scored the final five points of the set to go up 1-0 in the match.

PLNU once again scored the final five points of set two, this time on Kira Federico's serve, to take a commanding 2-0 lead in large part to its .467 hitting % in the set.

The Sea Lions then won the final stanza by double digits, limiting the Warriors to a -.094 attack % in the third. A solo block from Sophia Baugh helped Point Loma go on a 6-0 run that broke open an 8-8 set.

The sweep is PLNU's 15th of the season and 10th in its last 12 matches.

Nua led all players with 14 kills, followed closely by Saren Rogers' 13. Nua tied Anna Massari for the match lead in blocks (4), while Nua's 12 digs were just one behind Makenna Joyce's 13.

Point Loma (21-0 overall, 15-0 PacWest) returns to Golden Gym on Wednesday at 6 p.m. to face Hawai'i Hilo in conference action.
