(SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.) In a highly anticipated matchup between top ranked teams, No. 11 Cal State San Bernardino handed No. 6 PLNU Men's Basketball its first loss of the season, defeating the Sea Lions by a 76-65 margin.
Â
Point Loma, already with two wins against ranked opponents this season, was looking for its third of the year in just five games, this time against the two-time defending West Region champions.
Â
PLNU led early in the second half after
Wynton Brown's block led to his layup on the other end, but CSUSB went on a 26-8 run over the next nine minutes to go up by a game-high 16 points.
Â
The Sea Lions then battled back to within seven on a pair of occasions, including after
Pierce Davis's dunk with 3:31 to play.
Â
However, the Yotes limited Point Loma to just 2-for-21 from 3-point range in the game, including 0-for-12 in the second half, to turn a tie game at halftime into an 11-point victory.
Â
Luke Haupt led PLNU with a season high 17 points.
Â
Point Loma (4-1 overall) now turns its attention to its home opener on Tuesday, when the Sea Lions host Cal State San Marcos in Golden Gym at 7:30 p.m.
