SEA LIONS SEAL THREE POINTS AGAINST BIOLA ON SENIOR DAY

(SAN DIEGO) No. 10 PLNU Men's Soccer won its 10th game of the season on Saturday in comeback fashion, defeating Biola 3-1 on Senior Day.

After the Eagles scored in the 30th minute, senior Milan Diklic scored late in the first half to tie the game before Zach Mercieca scored twice in the second period to keep the Sea Lions undefeated in PacWest play with two games remaining.

"Any three points in the league is a good three points, so we're happy with the result," Head Coach Phil Wolf said. "We had had to find a little bit of different way today, coming back. We usually score first, so I'm really proud of the guys that they came back and got the three points."

Following Biola's opening goal, Point Loma equalized less than nine minutes later through Diklic's first goal of the season.

Niko Kaczmarczyk curled a free kick into a dangerous area and ultimately found Oliver Padilla, who directed the ball toward Diklic to head home from close range.

The game was level at the half before the Sea Lions came alive late, with Mercieca scoring a pair with his eighth and ninth goals of the season.

"I'm really pleased that they stayed in it," Wolf said. "I thought in the second half they were good and created a couple goals which was great."

Both goals came in similar fashion, with a through ball from the left wing slipping Elijah Langford through to the byline to cross a ball to Mercieca to finish.

In the 76th, Simon Sagal found Langford who crossed to Mercieca at the near post to score a headed goal for the first time in his Sea Lions career.

Then in the 85th, it was Emmett Layman who connected with Langford to square a ball across the goal to Mercieca to once again find the back of the net.

"Our front group of Felix Calero, Zach, Eli and Emmett is a handful," Wolf said. "There's a reason why we're scoring two or three goals every game.

"The thing I love about them is that we're getting goals and assists from all of them. That shows a group that's connected and a group that's playing for and looking for each other."

Point Loma (10-1-3 overall, 8-0-1 PacWest) concludes the regular season next week with a pair of road games. PLNU will first take on Fresno Pacific on Thursday at 5 p.m. before playing Academy of Art on Saturday at noon in the regular season finale.

With a win at FPU on Thursday, PLNU would clinch a second straight PacWest title.

"This group has been pretty good as far as trying to stay in the moment," Wolf said. "Every game is hard, and every game has its own problems and its own stories. We just have to look at Fresno and say this is the only game that matters. It's a hard place to play against a very good team. We're just excited to continue to play."
