RANGERS RESPOND LATE TO BEAT SEA LIONS

(SAN DIEGO) Kaylee Byon made another go-ahead basket in the final minute for PLNU Women's Basketball, only for Regis to respond and defeat Point Loma 71-69 in Golden Gym on Thursday night.

Byon drove to the basket to put the Sea Lions up by one with 27 seconds remaining, but the Rangers drained a triple on the other end to steal the victory away.

The junior guard has now made a go-ahead shot in the final minute of regulation in three out of the team's five games this season.

Her go-ahead lay-in came after Eiley Tippins had initially put the Sea Lions in front with 1:41 remaining, helping overturn a seven-point deficit earlier in the fourth quarter.

Tippins (8 points, 12 rebounds) was key in PLNU holding a 38-24 advantage in points in the paint, as was Alli McDonald (16 points, 13 rebounds), who recorded her third straight double-double.

McDonald scored eight of those points in the first quarter, during which Point Loma went on a 12-0 run to go up by a game-high eight points at 13-5.

However, the Rangers responded by outscoring the Sea Lions 16-4 the rest of the opening quarter to develop a lead they held for most of the game until the final couple minutes.

Tavia Rowell (14 points) and Byon (10 points) also scored in double figures, while Maddie Mersch and Hannah Golan each scored eight points apiece.

Point Loma (2-3 overall) returns to Golden Gym on Saturday, when PLNU hosts Saint Martin's at 6 p.m.
