(BURNABY, B.C.) PLNU Women's Basketball closed out a perfect trip to Canada with an 86-64 win over Simon Fraser on Saturday afternoon in the Sea Lions' largest margin of victory so far this season.
Â
"Huge win tonight over a very good team," Head Coach
Charity Elliott said. "I loved how we shared the ball on offense and took care of the ball, valuing every possession. Defensively, our team chemistry and trust keeps growing and I'm so proud of our effort and toughness."
Â
Point Loma dominated on the glass, outrebounding Simon Fraser 44-28, while outscoring the Red Leafs 38-24 in points in the paint.
Â
A huge reason why was dominant performances from
Eiley Tippins (14 points, 16 rebounds) and
Alli McDonald (17 points, 11 rebounds), who both recorded double-doubles.
Â
"Eiley was a beast on the boards and hit some huge baskets for us," Elliott said. "She continues to be our dominant leadership voice.
Alli McDonald had another double-double and just is a work horse for us."
Â
The Sea Lions scored 22 or more points in three of four quarters, totaling 49 points in the first half as they took an 18-point lead into halftime.
Â
PLNU's lead never got below 12 from that point on, as Point Loma cruised to its third straight victory.
Â
Â
The win completed a perfect homecoming for
Tavia Rowell, a native of Langley, British Columbia who added 19 points after scoring 21 in Friday's win against Northwest Nazarene.
Â
"What a way for Tavia to come to her hometown and just have an amazing weekend," Elliott said. "I'm glad we could get her two dubs in front of her friends and family."
Â
Kaylee Byon led all scorers on Saturday with a season-high 26 points.
Â
"Kaylee had her most complete performance tonight and did a great job handling pressure and hitting some huge tough shots," Elliott said.
Â
Point Loma (5-3 overall) now turns its attention to PacWest play, as PLNU will travel to the Bay Area to begin conference action on Thursday at Dominican (5:30 p.m.) before playing at Academy of Art on Saturday (1 p.m.).
Â
"This was a huge weekend for us and we got so many incredible performances," Elliott said. "Grace hit some big shots over the weekend and
Maddie Mersch worked her butt off both games. I'm just so proud of our progress."
