PLNU COMPLETES PERFECT OPENING WEEKEND TO PACWEST PLAY

(SAN FRANCISCO) PLNU Women's Basketball completed a perfect opening weekend to PacWest play on Saturday, defeating Academy of Art by a score of 70-59.

After a dominant win over Dominican on Thursday to open up conference action, Point Loma won each of the final three quarters on Saturday against ART U to win its fifth consecutive game by double digits.

"Tough battle today against a long and athletic Academy of Art team," Head Coach Charity Elliott said. "I'm proud of our execution down the stretch and we got defensive stops when we needed to."

The Urban Knights led by five after the first quarter, before the Sea Lions took the lead for good following a Tavia Rowell 3-pointer with 1:17 left in the second.

PLNU extended its lead to double digits in the third following another Rowell triple, before Point Loma scored seven of the final nine points in the game to pull away in the end.

"We had a lot of significant contributions tonight, led by Tavia with 22 points and Alli McDonald's double-double," Elliott said. "Kaylee Byon continues to be our sparkplug and passion player."

Rowell led all players with 22 points, while Byon added 19 and McDonald posted a double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Point Loma (7-3 overall, 2-0 PacWest) takes its five-game winning streak into its conference home opener on Wednesday, when PLNU hosts Biola in Golden Gym at 5:30 p.m.

"I'm so proud of entire team," Elliott said. "It's always hard to get two wins on a road trip, so we are happy to come home 2-0."
