(FRESNO, Calif.)
Justin James picked up his 150th win as PLNU Baseball Head Coach as No. 6 Point Loma swept Fresno Fresno Pacific on Saturday, 1-0 and 16-3, to win its PacWest-opening series.
After FPU won the opening game of the series on Friday, James coached PLNU to three-straight victories to jumpstart the Sea Lions' quest for a third-consecutive PacWest title this season.
Jake Entrekin's solo homer in the top of the ninth of game one was all PLNU needed, as three Point Loma pitchers held FPU scoreless.
Starter
Cole Colleran pitched six shutout innings, with
Christian Williams following that up with two scoreless innings of his own to earn the win.
James Sashin picked up the save with a one-two-three ninth.
Then in game two, the bats erupted for PLNU's most runs in a game this season despite it being a seven-inning game.
Scott Anderson got the Sea Lions on the board with an RBI-single down the left-field line in the top of the first.
The Sunbirds tied the game in the bottom half, only for the visitors to once again take the lead with a four-spot in the top of the second.
Miller Durham tripled to center to score two before he crossed home plate on
Eric Smelko's double to right.
Entrekin rounded out the scoring in the inning with a sacrifice fly and then singled to right in the fourth to score another.
FPU scored once in the bottom half before PLNU blew open the game in the fifth with eight runs.
Durham walked with the bases loaded to score one, before
Esai Santos, Entrekin and
Hunter Otjen all came through with RBI-singles.
Bryson Hashimoto then cleared the bases with a two-out double to right center to make it 14-2.
After FPU scored once more in the bottom of the fifth,
Jack Malone added two more for the Sea Lions, hitting an RBI-triple to left center before scoring on a wild pitch.
Austyn Coleman earned his third win of the season on the mound, pitching four innings and only allowing one earned run.
Point Loma (11-3 overall, 3-1 PacWest) returns to Carroll B. Land Stadium on Friday when PLNU hosts Westmont in PacWest action.
