(SAN DIEGO) For the first time this season following emergency field repairs, No. 4 PLNU Baseball was back at Carroll B. Land Stadium, as Point Loma hosted Westmont in PacWest action on Friday.
Â
After the Warriors spoiled the Sea Lions' delayed home opener, 3-1, PLNU responded with a 7-6 victory in Game 2 to even the series.
Â
After Westmont led off Game 1 with a home run,
Scott Anderson tied it up in the bottom of the third with a single to right.
Â
The Warriors retook their lead in the top of the fourth with a pair of unearned runs, which proved to be all they needed as the visitors scattered seven PLNU hits and stranded 11 Sea Lions on base.
Â
Starting pitcher
Dylan Miller threw five innings and gave up one earned run, while reliever
Branden Jackel tossed four shutout innings without allowing a hit, retiring 12 of the 13 batters he faced.
Â
Then in game two, it was Point Loma who got on the board in the first inning off an Anderson double down the left field line.
Â
Â
PLNU then added three runs in the second, as
Miller Durham's infield single,
Eric Smelko's sacrifice bunt and
Esai Santos' single to left scored runners.
Â
Â
Westmont responded with three runs in the top of the fourth, only for the hosts to answer back with two of its own in the bottom half, via a Smelko RBI base hit and a run scored off a wild pitch.
Â
Â
After the Warriors scored once more in the fifth,
Hunter Otjen's single in the sixth put the Sea Lions up 7-4.
Â
The visitors then hit a two-run homer in the top of the seventh to get to within one before PLNU stranded the tying run on base.
Â
Starter
Ray Cebulski earned the win, pitching four innings and giving up three runs (one earned).
James Sashin picked up his sixth save of the season.
Â
Point Loma (12-4 overall, 4-2 PacWest) returns to Carroll B. Land Stadium on Saturday for another doubleheader with Westmont (9-6-2, 1-1) beginning at 11 a.m.
