(SAN DIEGO) No. 4 PLNU Baseball hit back-to-back-to-back homers in game one versus Westmont on Saturday before scoring three runs in the final inning of game two to force extras.
Â
The Warriors edged the Sea Lions 15-13 in game one despite Point Loma putting up 19 hits, its most hits in a loss since becoming full-time members of the NCAA. Game two then ended in a 4-4 tie after it was called because of darkness.
Â
Scott Anderson and
Jake Entrekin each hit a pair of home runs in game one, with their second long balls coming in back-to-back fashion before
Hunter Otjen made it three PLNU home runs in a row.
Â
Â
Those three long balls in the bottom of the fifth inning nearly helped Point Loma overturn a 10-4 deficit, as
Jack Malone's RBI-triple and
Bryson Hashimoto's run-scoring single got the Sea Lions to within one in the seventh.
Â
Â
After Westmont tacked on one run in each of the eighth and ninth innings,
Eric Smelko knocked in a runner with a single before the Warriors closed out the victory.
Â
Then in game two, the visitors took a 2-0 lead in the first inning before starter
Austyn Coleman didn't allow another run for the rest of his six-inning outing.
Â
Hashimoto's sacrifice fly got the hosts on the board in the fourth before Westmont added two more in the top of the seventh.
Â
Down to their final three outs, Point Loma rallied to score three in the bottom half to force extras, as
Esai Santos singled to score one,
Owen May scored on a balk and Entrekin hit a sacrifice fly to left.
Â
Â
Westmont then stranded PLNU's potential winning run on second base before neither team managed to score in the eighth or ninth, after which the game was called.
Â
Point Loma (12-5-1 overall, 4-3-1 PacWest) now travels to play Hawai'i Hilo on the road for four games in PacWest play, starting with a doubleheader on Friday.
