PENGUINS STUN SEA LIONS AT OVERTIME BUZZER

(SAN RAFAEL, Calif.) PLNU Women's Basketball overcame a 14-point halftime deficit to force overtime before Dominican's 3-pointer at the buzzer stunned Point Loma in the extra period, 65-62.

The Sea Lions, ranked No. 6 in the first official NCAA West Region rankings, outscored the Penguins by 10 in the third quarter and four in the fourth.

Tavia Rowell hit a go-ahead, straightaway triple to give PLNU a two-point lead with under 30 seconds remaining in regulation, only for DUC to drive back down the court and tie it.

After a Point Loma turnover, the Sea Lions got the stop they needed to send the game to overtime.

PLNU then led by three in the extra period after a Rowell basket with two minutes to play, only for DUC to pull back ahead with a corner 3.

After Point Loma called timeout to advance the ball across halfcourt, Ellie Turk passed to Katie Scott, who went to work and spun to the middle to tie the game off the glass with 27 seconds left on the clock.

On the ensuing possession, the PLNU defense knocked the ball away with a second overtime appearing likely. However, Dominican picked up the loose ball before hitting the game-winner from the wing while falling away.

Tavia Rowell led all scorers with a PLNU career-high 26 points, including 19 in the second half and overtime to fuel the Sea Lions' comeback.

Hannah Golan joined her in double figures with 11, while Turk (8 points) set a career-high with 10 assists.

With the loss, PLNU drops to fourth in the PacWest standings. Point Loma (16-11 overall, 12-7 PacWest) can move up to third with a win over Academy of Art on Saturday, combined with a Biola victory at Dominican, but can drop no further than fourth.

Tip-off in Saturday's regular season finale in San Francisco is scheduled for 1 p.m.
