POINT LOMA PICKS UP FIRST WIN OF NEW SEASON

(LA JOLLA, Calif.) Scott Anderson finished a single short of the cycle and Dylan Miller struck out nine batters in 5.2 innings to lead No. 21 PLNU Baseball to its first win of the season, 8-4, over Northwest Nazarene on Saturday night.

Anderson's three-run blast highlighted a six-run bottom of the sixth, which proved to be the difference for Point Loma.

Miller left the game with a 2-1 lead, after Jake Entrekin's liner through the right side scored Eric Smelko in the first inning and Anderson's two-out RBI-triple plated Will Pope in the third.

Then in the sixth, Miller Durham's sacrifice bunt scored Jack Malone before Esai Santos knocked in Hunter Otjen with a two-out single to right.

After Santos stole second, Smelko walked to bring up Anderson, who then belted Point Loma's first home run of the season.

The Sea Lions then waited all of one pitch for their second homer of the year, as Entrekin went back-to-back with Anderson to cap off the six-run sixth inning.

NNU scored three in the top of the seventh to cut its deficit to four but that was as close as the Nighthawks would get, as James Sashin and Jonathan Kozasky pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth inning respectively.

Miller picked up the 20th win of his career, moving him into the top-10 in the category among Sea Lions all-time.

Anderson (4 RBI) and Entrekin (2 RBI) both recorded three hits on the night, while Malone, Otjen and Smelko each had multi-hit evenings as well.
