(SAN DIEGO) After wins over Fresno Pacific and Hawai'i Hilo, PLNU Women's Tennis has extended its winning streak to 11, tying the program's longest winning streak in the 21st century, previously set in 2011.
Â
Point Loma defeated FPU on Friday, 7-0, before taking down Hilo on Monday, 6-1, while having a match against Academy of Art on Saturday canceled because of rain.
Â
The Sea Lions will have a chance to set a new program record winning streak on Thursday against Linfield.
Against FPU, picked up its fourth shutout victory of the season.
Â
The Sea Lions swept the doubles point after winning all three doubles contests, including a 6-0 triumph at No. 3 by
Anna Pallencaoe and
Emely Valencia.
Â
Point Loma then won all but one singles match in straight sets, which included a dominant 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 6 for Valencia.
Â
Â
Then against Hilo, the Vulcans took the doubles point by winning two out of three matches, with the exception being
Arianna Audelo's and
Thelma Sepulveda's 6-1 victory at No. 1.
Â
However, the Sea Lions responded by winning all six singles matches to remain unbeaten at home (8-0) this season.
Â
Those singles victories included
Quin Brady (6-1, 6-0) rolling at No. 4, while Audelo also won a set without losing a game in her 7-5, 6-0 win at No. 2.
Â
Audelo trailed 4-5 in the first set but broke her opponent's serve to prolong the set, as she went on to win nine-straight games to clinch the overall match victory for PLNU.
Â
Sepulveda (6-4, 7-5) broke her opponent's serve to claim set one at No. 3 before winning in straight sets to round out the singles sweep.
Â
Brady (12) and Audelo (11) both now have double-digit singles wins on the season, with No. 1 singles player
Amanda Letzring on the verge with nine.
Â
Point Loma (12-2 overall) returns to the PLNU Tennis Courts on Thursday at 2 p.m. with the hopes of tying the 1996 team for the program's longest-ever winning streak.
