SEA LIONS SET NEW SEASON-HIGH IN RUNS SCORED

(SAN DIEGO) No. 5 PLNU Baseball set a new season-high in runs scored, while Esai Santos had seven hits on the day to lead Point Loma's offensive onslaught in a doubleheader sweep of Chaminade on Wednesday in PacWest action.

The Sea Lions won the first game 8-4 before hitting four home runs in a 20-6 game two victory.

In the series opener, Dylan Miller retired the first nine batters he faced on his way to another stellar outing, pitching seven innings and allowing only two runs while striking out seven.

Eric Smelko put the Sea Lions ahead in the second with a two-run double just inside the first base bag.

After Chaminade tied the game with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth, Joey Nicolai put Point Loma back in front in the bottom half with an RBI-single.

PLNU then broke the game open in the the seventh with five runs, including a three-run moonshot from Jack Malone.

Then in game two, Chaminade took an early 3-0 lead only for Point Loma to bat around in the bottom of the second, scoring seven runs.

That inning featured a pair of three-run homers from Eric Smelko and Jake Entrekin, before Esai Santos joined in on the party with two home runs.

Santos hit a two-run shot in the third, and then after Malone cleared the bases with a double in the fourth, the second baseman launched another long ball in his next at-bat to leadoff the fifth.

He then recorded his seventh hit of the day, a two-RBI single, as the Sea Lions tacked on five more runs in the bottom of the sixth to reach the 20-run mark.

Point Loma (24-7-1 overall, 16-5-1 PacWest) will face off with Chaminade again on Thursday, with another PacWest doubleheader scheduled for noon inside Carroll B. Land Stadium.
