MEN'S TENNIS BEATS WESTMONT ON SENIOR DAY

(SAN DIEGO) PLNU Men's Tennis finished the regular season on a high note, defeating Westmont 5-2 on Senior Day.

"It was a great performance against a tough Westmont team," Head Coach Curt Wheeler said. "Every position was contested, and the team came out ready to go with some strong doubles and then put some quick points on the board in singles to get a good win today."

Point Loma claimed the doubles point with victories on Court No. 2 and Court No. 3.

Seniors Andrew Suver and Lukas Schuster rolled at No. 3, 6-1, before Elias Weeks and Nabeel Khan teamed up to clinch the doubles point with a 6-3 victory at No. 2.

The Sea Lions then won the first four singles matches to finish, all in straight sets.

Schuster started things off with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6.

Alexander Leischner was next with his 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 1, followed by wins from Khan (6-1, 6-3) at No. 5 and Matt Melosch (6-2, 7-5) at No. 4.

Before the match, the team honored graduating seniors David Strassbruger, Schuster, Suver and Melosch.

"This is a special senior class," Wheeler said. "Each of them brings something unique and different to the team. The team chemistry they've brought and obviously the high-level of tennis they've brought has been fun to watch."

Point Loma (11-7 overall) is on a two-match winning streak entering next week's PacWest Championships.

"The team's outlook is great right now," Wheeler said. "We'll most likely be in that four-seed spot and in a great position that if we play some good tennis and win some tough matches, postseason play after the conference tournament is definitely the goal for the team."
