ART U SPOILS PLNU'S PACWEST TITLE HOPES IN SEMIS

(SURPRISE, Ariz.) Top-seeded PLNU Women's Tennis had its attempt to reach a first-ever PacWest Championship Match spoiled by fifth-seeded Academy of Art on Friday afternoon, as the Urban Knights beat the Sea Lions 4-1.

ART U won the doubles point in a tiebreak at No. 3 after the two teams split on Courts No. 1 and No. 2.

Thelma Sepulveda and Arianna Audelo won their No. 1 doubles matchup, 6-4, when Sepulveda's serve was returned into the net on a deuce point.

Jazlyn Miyamura and Anna Pallencaoe forced a tiebreak at No. 3 doubles but ART U prevailed to take a 1-0 match lead.

The Urban Knights then won two of the first three singles matchups to finish, with Audelo getting the Sea Lions on the board. She won a first-set tiebreaker, 7-3, on her way to a 7-6, 6-3 victory at No. 3.

Anna Pallencaoe and Amanda Letzring then won the second sets of their singles matchups to keep PLNU alive.

Letzring trailed 2-3 in the second set at No. 1 before earning a break to go up 4-3 and ultimately winning 6-4. Pallencaoe dominated in her second set at No. 5, winning every game.

A late break of serve for Quin Brady in her first set at No. 4 forced a tiebreak, which she won 7-2 after winning the final five points. She then led 4-0 in the second set when ART U clinched the overall match victory.

Point Loma (16-4 overall) will play in the Third-Place Match on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Concordia, looking to tie the program's best-ever finish at the PacWest Championships, which was set last year.
