BIOLA THWARTS PLNU AS THE BATTLE FOR PACWEST SEEDING HEATS UP

(SAN DIEGO) Biola sneaked past PLNU Men's Tennis on Saturday, 4-3, in a closely contested battle between teams fighting for seeding at the upcoming PacWest Championships.

The Eagles claimed the doubles point by winning on Courts No. 1 and No. 3, but the Sea Lions did win at No. 2, with Elias Weeks' ace sealing a 6-3 victory for him and partner Nabeel Khan.

The doubles point ended up being the difference, as the two teams split the six singles matches, with five of them going to three sets.

Andrew Suver earned PLNU's first point in the match with his 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 triumph at No. 2.

After dropping the first set and trailing 3-4 in the second, he went on to win the final three games in the second set and then carried that momentum into the third.

Alexander Leischner won 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 at No. 1, with his 7-5 victory in a first-set tiebreak proving to be crucial.

Matt Melosch rounded out PLNU's scoring with his 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 victory at No. 4.

After losing the first set, he raced out to a 5-0 lead in the second set before also winning in the third.

That tied up the match at 3-3, with the winner being determined by the outcome at No. 6 singles, which Biola won.

Point Loma (9-7 overall) hosts Concordia on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in its penultimate regular season match.
