BRONCOS END NO. 1 SEA LIONS' 13-MATCH WINNING STREAK

(POMONA, Calif.) No. 1 PLNU Women's Soccer had its 13-match unbeaten streak dating back to last season end on Thursday after a 1-0 defeat to Cal Poly Pomona, the reigning CCAA champions who are receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Poll.

How It Happened
The sole goal of the game was scored in the 26th minute by CPP's Tara Oper, who was assisted by Angelina Rivas. After another shot by Oper was saved by PLNU goalie Julia Pinnell, the Sea Lions fired back with a shot from Grace Nelson which was blocked. Seconds later, Bethany Arabe made another attempt for the Sea Lions, barely missing wide left. CPP then took its 1-0 lead into halftime.

In search of a tying goal, Point Loma outshot Pomona 5-1 in the second half. PLNU's Priya Torres had a shot saved by Pomona, only to be returned and saved yet again on a second attempt by Torres. The Sea Lions didn't wait long to put more pressure on Pomona, as another shot by Gianna Masinter was blocked by Pomona minutes later. A last shot by Lily Paulson in the final minutes of the period was the last offense by the Sea Lions, who fell 1-0 despite attacking the goal with 10 shots during the match.
