(IRVINE, Calif.) PLNU Women's Soccer battled Concordia to a scoreless, 0-0 draw on Saturday in Irvine, earning Point Loma a valuable road point in the PacWest standings against a team receiving votes in the national rankings.
Â
"I thought we created enough opportunities to get the win, so we sit in some disappointment tonight," Head Coach
Kristi Kiely said. "But we take with us the moments we created and will look to convert on them next match."
Â
The Sea Lions outshot the Golden Eagles 14-11 and deserved more from the match, as the visitors caused several problems throughout.
Â
PLNU had a goal disallowed in the first half for offsides and forced three saves in the opening 45 minutes, before taking nine shots after halftime.
Â
Point Loma was particularly dangerous in the final 20 minutes, as the Sea Lions searched for a winner.
Â
PLNU had a penalty shout with
Alyssa Ketcham brought down as she was running in behind the defense, but no penalty was given.
Â
Maddie Khan then sent a dangerous ball across the face of goal that nearly found an onrushing
Priya Torres.
"Priya played very well for us tonight, dealing well with an aggressive back line and got us into very good situations," Kiely said.
Zoe Crockett's header off a corner went just over, before
Grace Nelson laced a shot just wide of the far post and had another shot blocked from a promising position.
Goalkeeper
Julia Pinnell made a strong diving save in the closing minute to preserve PLNU's fourth straight clean sheet and fifth in its past six games.
Â
"Zoe showed up in many moments in our back line and did the job of a couple people often as we kept numbers forward," Kiely said.
Â
Point Loma (4-2-2 overall, 1-0-1 PacWest) returns to conference play on Wednesday at Biola. Kickoff in La Mirada is scheduled for 4 p.m.
Â
"If we keep creating chances like we did tonight, they will come but we will need to make them happen," Kiely said.
