(WAIPAHU, Oahu) No. 10 PLNU Men's Soccer returned to its winning ways on Saturday with a 3-1 victory at Hawai'i Pacific to pick up a valuable three points in the PacWest title race and close out its trip to the Aloha State on a positive note.
After dropping its first conference game of the season on Thursday at Hawai'i Hilo, Point Loma responded early on Saturday through
Simon Sagal.
Sagal confidently stepped up to curl in a low free kick from outside the box to give the Sea Lions a lead in the 12th minute, only for HPU to equalize just before the half.
Point Loma then outshot Hawai'i Pacific 7-2 in the second half and was rewarded with a pair of goals in the 79th and 83rd minutes.
A well-worked passage of play found
Inaki Santamarina in behind the defense to square the ball across goal to
Cole Friesen at the near post to restore PLNU's advantage.
The Sea Lions then sealed the three points less than five minutes later when
Curtis Collazos got on the end of a cross and his left-footed ball was re-directed into the net by
Emmett Layman.
Both Friesen and Layman scored their eighth goals of the season.
Point Loma (9-3-1 overall, 5-1 PacWest) returns to conference action on Wednesday to host Azusa Pacific at 3:45 p.m.
