(COSTA MESA, Calif.) No. 7 PLNU Men's Basketball overturned a seven-point halftime deficit against No. 12 Cal State Dominguez Hills to open the new season with a 90-82 win over the Toros in a rematch of last season's West Regional championship.
Point Loma outscored Dominguez Hills by 15 points in the second half, as the Sea Lions shot nearly 60% from the field after halftime.
After the Toros made five 3-pointers in the first half, the Sea Lions held them to just one make from behind the arc in the second half.
Andrew Nagy led four PLNU players in double figures with a game-high 24 points on an efficient 11-for-15 shooting, including 2-for-4 from deep.
Jaden Matingou (18 points) and
James Nobles (17 points) also scored in double figures, as did
Tyce Paulsen (15 points), who made a trio of triples.
PLNU dominated the boards, outrebounding CSUDH 38-21, while possessing a 40-30 advantage in points in the paint.
Dominguez Hills only turned the ball over eight times, but Point Loma made CSUDH pay for each one with 17 total points off turnovers.
Point Loma (1-0 overall) returns to the court in Costa Mesa on Saturday to play Cal State San Bernardino at 2 p.m. in a rematch of last season's West Regional semifinals.
